AS TOLD BY HIS DAUGHTER

He worked at the Gnowangerup National Bank at this time, but I think in the end he got fed up with his job and they decided to go hack to England to live. Which is why June and myself were born there.

Apparently June was susceptible to chest colds and got quite sick when she was about two years of age and the doctor advised my parents to come back to Australia to live in the warm climate.

I think when we arrived in Gnowangerup I was three months old and June was three years of age. Dad set up his own business apparently repairing radios - he had taught himself and was very good at it. He worked very hard and built up different agencies, English cars, Hillman & Humbers and a travel agency with Orient Line ships. As a small child I used to go out in the bush with Dad to different farms to repair and sell radios, we were very close and I loved it. They were the years of the depression and I can remember half of the time Dad was paid with butter and eggs, chickens etc - like the barter system. It happened with a lot of people.

We rented houses until I can remember when I was fourteen or fifteen years
old, we finally bought a brick house in Yougenup Street - it was wonderful for my mother as she wasn't very well - found the summers very hard to cope with.

I had a wonderful childhood in Gnowangerup with lots of friends - loved sport of any kind and of course we had the wonderful swimming pool which most country towns at that time didn't!

June actually, when I look back, even though she was happy there, she was glad when she was able to leave and join the Air force during the war. I very nearly married and lived in Gnowangerup, but changed my mind and came to

Perth to work -where eventually I met Bob.

In the end Mummy was quite sick so they solid up and came dorm to Perch to
live at City Beach - to be near to both June and myself and the grandchildren.
